My and 8 of my friends went for dinner, and loved the atmosphere and the food - including their own brewed beer and rum. We continually had to flag down our waiter anytime we needed anything. We went to dinner before going to a play, and allotted 2.5 hours for dinner, but because we kept having to flag the waiter down, ended up in a big time crunch. Then, 4 of the 5 tickets were wrong, we sent the tickets back, and the waiter brought back 2 that were still wrong. Because we had to leave, we decided to just pay the wrong amount and settle it between ourselves. My debit card then got swiped 4 times. It took several calls to the restaurant, and after almost 2 weeks, so far I have only been credited back 2 times - so there is still 1 outstanding debit. I cant get them to return my calls now, and so I have to have my bank work on it. The bank tells me it could take up to 2 weeks to get my account credited back. As a result of the service problems, and the fact that they restaurant management has not followed through, none of us plan on ever going back. If you decide to check it out (the food and alcohol really were good) - take cash and plan to spend 2-3 hours on dinner.
Report This ReviewWhile the term "Loose Meat" may not inspire hunger pangs in some people, those people have not eaten at The Stable. I had been to the place before to drink and attend London Calling, but never for dinner. I had the basic blue loose meat sandwich and salad. Both were very good. Additionally, our server was great, giving us beer suggestions and samples when we were skeptical of a certain choice. Several people around us ordered pizzas and they looked good. I think I will go back to try those.
Report This ReviewThe Stable has a variety of foods including grinders and pizzas that are very good. They also serve a few pasta dishes if that's what you are in the mood for. Their beer selection is grand and it is rumored that they are working on brewing Lemp beer in Saint Louis again. The service is a little "green" but other than some slow service I have not experienced any rude or impolite staff. I think that the place looks very bold and classy with the antiques and the grand bar and is overall a good atmosphere.
Report This ReviewI was very pleasantly surprised at The Stable. They advertise a good variety of beer, and they arent kidding. They have a huge variety of foreign and domestic beers. If you can't find one to your liking here, don't bother trying anywhere else. They have some nice wines also. The menu has a good variety. We had a Mario's pizza and salad. The salad is very tasty and there is a lot of it. The pizza has a very interesting combination of toppings and was delicious. It is also very large and would feed 3 to 4 easily. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and had good timing. As I said, I was very pleasantly surprised and will definitely make many return trips to The Stable.
Report This ReviewI am disappointed with my visit to The Stable. Although the atmosphere was nice, our group experienced poor customer service not only from our server but the manager as well. Neither seemed to know how to interact with customers professionally. In addition, the roughly 20% automatic group gratuity was not stated on the menu. This came as surprise on our bill considering our poor customer service. At a 20% automatic service charge, I would have expected much more outstanding service.
Report This ReviewI went to The Stable on a Thursday evening with a group of ten. The Stable has an great atmosphere, and the food definitely exceeded everyone's expectations.
However, the manager on duty was visibly intoxicated when he visited our table, and the wait staff desperately need some new instruction. We had to make a pretty big effort to get the waiter to come over so that we could order, and then waited close to ten minutes for water, and then another ten for drinks. Luckily the food arrived quickly, so the first half of our experience was not terrible.
When the bill finally came, our server had already added 18% gratuity, which we expected because of the size of our party. However, given the poor service and highly unprofessional management, we had a real problem when the server charged an additional six dollars in tip to each credit card we used. When we asked to have these unnecessary and undeserved charges removed, we were met with a great deal of hostility. Needless to say, the service we recieved did not merit an 18% tip, much less an additional thirty dollars. It did not help that the only manager on duty was in no condition to assist us.
I would tell any potential customer that The Stable has an incredible atmosphere, and great food. However, I would only return to The Stable after the owners hire a competent manager and a wait staff with some concept of customer service. The one star I have given The Stable, is for the kitchen staff who clearly know what they are doing.
