I had every intention going into 33 Wine Shop and Tasting Bar and tasting some wine. However, I got to talking beer with Jeff, and he mentioned that he had a beer brewed by monks that was only available during the Lenten period (what up Catholics!) that has the “essence of smoked pork.” What!? Wine, schmine – give me some of that pork beer! Before he could even set the glass down, we got a whiff of the quaff, and I’ll be if it didn’t smell like a backyard cookout. I licked my chops and went in for a taste...“essence” my foot – that beer tastes just like grandma’s Christmas ham. The beer is called Aecht Schlenkerla Fastenbier, but I call it Ham’s (with one “m”), and you have to get out to try it soon. Lent is officially over and you don’t want to have to fast until next year, do you?
