What's with all the bubbles?

With the approaching holidays comes a need to celebrate. And who doesn’t love a good party that starts (and ends!) with a glass of bubbles? Now whether you are the host buying the festive sparklers or you are a guest who would like to show up with bubbly in hand, the options can seem endless and, let’s face it, a bit confusing. Let’s all skip the Cook’s and Korbel this year and enjoy a higher quality sparkling wine that does not necessarily come with the hefty price tag.
On a recent trip to my neighborhood wine shop, Provisions Gourmet Market, I perused the selection of sparkling wines in preparation for my own holiday merriment. A friend who was along on my quest began asking me what the different styles were and how did I know which ones I wanted to buy. This got me thinking… how many consumers really know what they are looking for and why?
It’s time to set the record straight. Let’s explore the countries, regions and grapes that make up these fizzy concoctions and before you know it, you will feel comfortable picking out the perfect bottle for your party or gifting needs. That being said, I must tell you that sparkling wines are some of my favorites and I personally believe you can enjoy a bottle of bubbly any time, any day, any way.
