St. Louis microbreweries
We sat down with owner Steve Neukomm to try the beer and ask him to give us a running commentary. From left to right is the Light Squared, which is Square One's answer to the “big brewery’s” light beer, and it's a good introduction to craft beers. It’s the beer we just watched get brewed, and it’s a very tasty and refreshing drink. Next is the Single Malt Scotch Ale, which is smoooooth. To the right of that is the IPA, a very hoppy (i.e. bitter) beer, that Steve says is one of his current favorites. For that matter, every brewmaster and owner on this list is drinking the IPA these days, which must be the big beer in the craft beer world these days – IPA is the new black. Speaking of black, the beer on the far right is Square One’s Oatmeal Stout, a thick and very dark stout beer. All good and diverse beers, and Steve plans to showcase the IPA in the festival this year, along with a few others; a list he is still tinkering with. So if you want to taste what the brewer keeps on tap in his own home, check out Square One’s IPA at the festival. Or, hell, I don’t know... maybe go down to Square One and taste it a foot from where it was made.
