After reading the review in STL we went and was very disappointed with the whole over all exp. Service was slow and wine was way over priced and the food come on what portion you got wasn't worth the price you paid. It's in kirkwood and not ladue or clayton! We had to wait forever for our refill on wine and when a think his name was Stephen-gen mgr. he asked how things were and we explained our delay in getting our refills and was very rude and brash and acted like he could care less. I wld not recommend this place at all. considering there is so many other wine bars to choose from!

The service was terrible and the food was uneatable. I ordered Chicken Cavendish & the chicken was close to raw. No sour cream for the baked potatoe & the waitress informed me of that when she brought the food. No alternates offered. This place sucked! Never again
ajd_ wrote about Backstreet Jazz & Blues Club
I've been to Backstreet several times now, and each time to my disappointment. While the bands might be "headliners" from the local area, they seem to treat their appearance at Backstreet like a night off. Each time the bands have taken abnormally frequent and long breaks, and generally treat the audience like they're just "there". Also, the bar has a weak, terrible menu, which sometime they don't even serve ("we're not serving food tonight"...what???), and their drinks...just terrible. I have NEVER been served a decent drink there...I've tried some really simple, really basic drinks, and they have still been terrible. It's like the bar tenders just have no idea how to mix drinks! Some of the times, there is not even table service, so you have to get up from your seat, stand in line at the bar and order your own drink, bring it back to your table yourself, and then you find out the drink is terrible anyway! Overall, the atmosphere is just OK...kind of dark, old, dingy and one of those bathrooms that you just get in, pray you don't have to touch anything, and marvel at the fact that it appears no one has cleaned it in weeks. There is such potential here though, if, the owner/manager would just try! You've got a great location, and if you cleaned it up a bit, a great venue. Good bands come there (except I literally couldn't stand the Contours) and the crowd is a bit older, but fun mix, and there's a nice dance floor that at times is pretty full and lively. It's like they "almost" get it right sometimes, but then, they completely miss it. I'd say I leave there feeling slighted, feeling frustrated, and wondering if it's just me or if this is "what it is". But now, I've been there about 5-6 times, so, yeah, I think "it is what it is". Kind of sad, and I really hope they will consider some simple, easy changes to make it a better! I guess I'll never know because I seriously doubt I'll go back any time soon. Anyone else been there or have any thoughts to share?

It's kinda like Cheer's. everyone knows everyone that are regulars and it's all good. But if you are a new person it's cool too. Fun atmosphere and good food. You never know what to expect. That is what is cool. One day it is regulars the next someone you never met. But when it is all said and done.....you leave knowing you had a good time.

We have been to Robust several times. Aside from the fantastic wine and food offerings, it's the staff that keeps us coming back. They are knowledgeable and make terrific suggestions. We have never been disappointed.

We frequent Robust whenever we can, and always have wonderful food, wine and conversation - it is a true gift to have it in our neighborhood!
Claypool wrote about Harvest
Last night, I had my birthday dinner with my wife at Harvest. Wow, am I glad we went here. I'd heard good things about Harvest for a long time, and worked with owner Steve Gontram on the Metromix Taste of St. Louis special - but I'd never been there. There's not a ton on the menu at any given time, but the menu does change often. After going back and forth, I decided on the rabbit dish. WOW! It was so good. The meat was tender, the sauce was excellent and the presentation was top notch. It was actually two takes on rabbit with one dish. The first way it was prepared was wrapped in Harvest's homemade bacon. Then, once you ge past a few of those chunks of meat, you find a rabbit-stuffed canneloni, which was perhaps even better. We had a nice bottle of wine, some garlic mashed potatoes and buttermilk onion rings on the side - and an amazing bread pudding for dessert. Even better, since I'm on Harvest's mailing list for events with Metromix, I got a coupon for a free entree on my birthday. All in all, this was a great trip. We will be back!

I wish I had such nice things to say about Robust. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past our waiter's pretentious and snotty attitude to enjoy my meal. I live in Webster & this was my pick for dinner with three other couples. What a mistake! While some in our party were wine drinkers, others asked to be served beer or a mixed drink. The waiter acted like they were ordering cow dung! I was embarassed by how rude the waiter was toward our party. I don't know how you got a beer at this place, but the waiter practically escorted us to the door when someone tried to order beer instead of wine. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. Wish I had something better to say about one of my hometown restaurants.

We are new yorkers and know what we like when it comes to italian we got the chicken parm and the fried raviolis which were very fresh and very good. then my husband got the tutti mare and he thought is was very good as well. Finding a little Garlic clove is nothing to complain about please...with Italian you are going to find garlic cloves in the food

The waiter was great, the service was great. The food: just terrible. It is rare that I--one who's equally comfortable eating street food as a Noritake-plated rack of lamb--would not make it through half a serving AND decline to take a box. But, this is what happened, and not just with me but with my date. I can still taste the very bad mussel that I unfortunately popped in my mouth (and before you say, "Why order seafood in St. Louis?" consider, "Why offer something on the menu if it isn't fit to be served?"), and that was not the least of it. Very poor food...and simply outrageously expensive for the quality. You'll get better Chinese/Thai in Butte, Montana. We discussed how they stay in business, and it must be the one-offs (like us) from the many nearby hotels. Move up or down the street: you'll get far better food, and at far more affordable prices. Sorry, Bamboo Bistro, but it's TRUE.

I was at the Post for the first time during game 1 of the world series. You have a great view of the game from any spot in the house. This is definitely a nice comfortable and homy sports bar. The Pizza was really good. I guess they do trivia night on Wednesday nights because they had trivia going on while I was there. They did a visual round which was really cool... never seen that before. Anyways, the place was busy and I'll definitely be back. I wish I lived a little closer so I could come up for trivia night more often.

MexicaninSTL wrote about Carniceria Latino Americana
You start off with a small bowl of beef or chicken soup, and follow with fresh authentic dishes made daily. These include: beef, chicken, pork, and or shrimp with seasonal vegetables and the ever present tomatoes, onions and peppers nicely seasoned. All dishes served with spanish rice, beans, and are accompanied by corn tortillas, or freshly baked "bolillo" bread and the ever present array of salsas. Prices range from $2.25 for a taco to $7.50 for a complete meal. The atmosphere in a restaurant offering Comida Corrida is the most attractive thing for me, aside from the good food. Restaurant "Don Carlos" attracts all sorts of customers including the weary visitors, the businessman with a short lunch break and whole families who decide not to go through the hassle of cooking that day. This atmosphere provides great opportunities for both people watching and meeting some of the local folk. All in all, "Don Carlos shares top place with other food vendors, and is on my eating list as the best places to eat mexican food is South City. Comida corrida = table d’hote, a small meal of several courses at a fixed price eaten between about 1 and 4 p.m.
sweepskie wrote about The Post Sports Bar & Grill
I first went to the Post about two months ago for lunch. I'm typically more of a subway kind of guy for lunch, but some of my colleagues had heard good things and wanted to try the place out, so I decided to join them. The first thing I noticed was that the place had a lot of energy, even during lunchtime. The waitresses were all smiling (and not just at the tables where they are supposed to, but also when they were conversing with each other or at the bar waiting for drinks) which tells me that they truly enjoy working there. The menu was quite a bit more expansive than what I expected. The waitress suggested I order the cheesesteak. Hands down the best cheesesteak I've ever had, period. I can't believe it took me this long to try this place out. I decided I should try the place out for a sporting event and went up for the second Mizzou PPV game against Furman. First of all, the place was packed! I couldn't believe how many people were there to watch this game. Moreover, the service didn't seem to be affected at all. I could see several of the waitresses helping each other out, which I think is great to see and benefits everyone. After the game, the place cleared out a bit which allowed my buddies and I to get on the shuffleboard table. This is one of the better ones I've ever played on. Most shuffleboard tables at bars are lopsided or warped, but this one was spot on. We had a blast and the owner even came over and asked us how everything had been, bought us a round of drinks, and played a game with us! Now if that's not a first class establishment, I don't know what is.
nancydrew7 wrote about Modesto Tapas Bar and Restaurant
I had been to Modesto for the fifth, and final, time on Friday, October 23. I chose it for a get together with friends, as I have thoroughly enjoyed the first four trips. Apparently, my luck had run out. We had a reservation for 10 at 6. At 6:30 we were informed that we needed to speed it up as there was another reservation at 8 for that table. Not only did the bum's rush not set the right tone, we waited 40 minutes for things from the grill. No apology, just some excuse about how the "grill is backed up." Even if we wanted to eat quickly, it would not have been possible. And, my husband did not get his final entree. The waitress claimed she "just took it off of the table," after we asked. It is a shame when you spend two hours at dinner and still have to hit the White Castle because you didn't get any food. I won't return, and I'll tell everyone who asks to go to Barcelona in Clayton.
