After some Internet buzz late last week, it's official and details are out: Emmy winner Michael J. Fox is returning to a regular role in series TV after more than a decade away with a new NBC comedy for fall 2013.

The untitled series, which has a 22-episode commitment, is loosely drawn from Fox's life. It will feature the actor as a husband and father of three from New York dealing with family, work and challenges, including Parkinson's disease.

Fox will be returning to the network where he gained fame, three Emmys and a Golden Globe in the 1980s playing son Alex Keaton on the hit family comedy Family Ties.

"To bring Michael J. Fox back to NBC is a supreme honor and we are thrilled that one of the great comedic television stars is coming home again," NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement.

Fox is nominated for two Emmys this year for guest roles in HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and CBS' The Good Wife.
