John Travolta as Vincent Vega, “Pulp Fiction”

What makes Vincent, and his associate Jules (Samuel L. Jackson), so memorable is not gunplay or tough talk, but their contemplative discussions as they waste away the day between hits. They debate the sexiness of a foot rub. They talk religion and travel. Out on a date with his boss’ wife, Vincent is the master of small talk—and then puts on his dancing shoes at her command. Yes, he’s a gangster, and willing to use the semi-automatic when necessary; but that’s just his day job. He’d rather be on a campus somewhere, debating history or romance.
