Matt Pais, your reviews rock. Even more so because I am sure your excellent criticism of mediocre, conventional Hollywood mush like Benjamin Button probably must frequently earn you invectives from the mostly undiscriminating Metromix crowd. I longed to revisit the quirkyness of earlier films such as Hotel New Hampshire when Button finally closed his eyes. What's happened to literary screen adaptations that frames such great actors in such uninspired and uninspiring costume- and make up- epics, like "Button?' Your observations about Button and Twilight , Valkyrie and The Day the Earth... are spot on and very humorous and will have me turn to you in the future when Manohla Dargis won't watch it.:)

Amazing film and it didn't make me think of Forrest Gump at all. It is still hanging on my heart. Save your money on Seven Pounds (talk about long! slow. boring.) and see this one again and again!

Holy mother of.... did they forget to EDIT? I mean great idea, but I felt like I walked out of an Old Folk's Home when I left the cinema. Seriously, the back and forth between her waking up and coughing for ten min, then back to the story....rent it.

very good, entertaining and fun... wasnt meant to be "too heavy" so don't look for insight... engaging cinematography, good writing, and excellent actors/direction...

This is one of the BEST movies I've ever seen, filled with compelling messages about not letting your fear stand in the way of life, acceptance of the hand you're dealt and making something of it, aging -- especially for women, choices we make when lonely, unselfish love, not allowing race to get in the way of right choices, redempton, hard choices in life.

Interesting movie with many messages, but don't expect an overall message from the plot. The special effects were awesome, but it was way too long. The love story left me flat. The pygmy scenes should have been on the cutting room floor.

I thought this movie was awesome. I had thought it would seem very long (167 minutes), but the story was great and the acting (and scenery) was superb.
