Ten live music wishes for 2011
Ten live music wishes for 2011

2011 is here, and I'm already dreaming of another batch of great concerts to make thier way through St. Louis. As a matter of fact, 2010 taught me to expect the best when it comes to live music. So, like I did last year, here are my ten live music wishes for the year ahead...
1. For LouFest to mostly remain the same. The best thing about its inaugural event was how cozy and laid-back it was. Sure, I'll welcome an even better lineup, and if that means bigger crowds, then great. But don't oversell it; it was near perfect in 2010, and we're lucky to have an event like it in St. Louis.
2. You know, speaking of LouFest, I'm sure many of you would agree that Wilco would be a perfect fit. As great as Jeff Tweedy's solo set was last year, the full band would be unreal. Could you imagine?
3. For The Firebird's "An Undercover Weekend" to remain awesome in its fifth year. Of course, I'm only going on what I've been told, as I haven't attended it yet. That will change in 2011. Promise. Which brings me to...
4. ...the local live music scene. Something special is happening here. We've got The Blind Eyes, Kentucky Knife Fight, Old Lights, Via Dove, The Dive Poets, Union Tree Review, Cassie Morgan, Beth Bombara...I could go on and on, and I probably should. Go out and see some local artists do their thing. Please.
5. For Neil Young to bring his 'Le Noise' solo electric/acoustic tour to town (assuming the tour isn't over, of course). Okay, okay, I love Neil Young—I'm biased, big time. But, I saw this show at The Ryman in Nashville last June, and it was truly special. He hasn't hit Chicago yet on this tour, so here's hoping...
6. For the U2 show at Busch Stadium in July to be filled with songs off 'War,' 'Rattle and Hum' and 'The Joshua Tree.' Does anyone really like their newer stuff? I mean, really like it?
7. For Blueberry Hill to start booking more shows. What happened?
8. For the Old Rock House to once again start booking better shows. Their schedule was so promising for most of 2010. Gotta get bands like Frightened Rabbit and We Were Promised Jetpacks back in the fold.
9. For us not to forget about the greatness of Twangfest, myself included. It might be an event that is easy to overlook, but June 8-11 will mark its 15th year, and that kind of longevity, my friends, speaks for itself.
10. Finally, once again, for all of you out there to let me know your opinion on the best upcoming shows around town! You can always e-mail at jgonulsen@gmail.com, and I will try to respond as soon as I can. Seriously, I want to hear from you.
