Let's hand it to the good people at Cicero's—they've really done a great job with their concert lineup so far in 2011. If you haven't been to the venue on Delmar in a while, or haven't even looked to see what bands are on their current calendar, now's a great time to get up to speed. Actually, this Monday night is a really awesome opportunity, to be exact.
I'll start with The Barr Brothers. They'll be opening for Matt Pond PA, and you'll want to get there early to check them out (8:00 p.m.). Their recently released self-titled debut is one of my favorite albums of the year, starting with the beautiful "Beggar In The Morning," an acoustic, shuffling gem that will surely make you a believer (watch the video below). I've never seen the band live, but their tunes should do just fine in Cicero's intimate setting. Let's hope it's the first of many appearances by The Barr Brothers in St. Louis—they're certainly a band to watch.
Matt Pond PA will headline Monday's show, and their latest release is an EP called 'Spring Fools.' Their sound has a smooth, indie feel, and it's even a bit poppy (although I use that term loosely). "Remains" really does it for me—it's when their sound comes together perfectly, so much that it's been on repeat for a while as I write this. Have a listen below.
One Lone Car, a quartet from Alton, Illinois, rounds out the bill, making this show quite a catch for only $12. Get your tickets here, folks. Now's your chance to get acquianted with Cicero's once again.
