Foxy’s knows their audience. The exterior looks like the end cap for yet another anonymous strip mall, but inside, every inch of wall space is dedicated to reminding you this restaurant loves Chicago. Posters, drawings and fake street signs all conspire to make expats homesick.
The ordering window is surrounded by Vienna Beef signs and loving descriptions of their assorted dogs. The one thing that makes it clear this isn’t Chicago is the staff’s amazing patience. I watched multiple groups of people start to place an order, waffle and change it up a little while the man behind the counter kept a cool smile and always replied that their modifications sounded really good, maybe he’d try it later. Foxy’s is the best place in St. Louis for the holy Chicago trifecta: Vienna beef dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and gyros. At around $5 each, these aren’t the cheapest hot dogs in St. Louis, but they are among the best.
