Tenth-grade Spanish class translates ”tapas” into the English word “lid” or “cover.” The origin of this is long and suspect, however what you need to know is that “tapas” unofficially translates into “appetizers”, and when you go to a tapas restaurant, you’re supposed to eat a lot of them. Tradition calls for making an entire meal out of three or four little plates of food that come out randomly through the dinner, and is designed as to not hinder the conversation amongst friends by interrupting with a big, whopping dinner. Well, we just had to see for ourselves what all the hype was about, and in keeping with the idea of a lot of random little plates of food over a long, drawn out meal, we decided to hit up five tapas bars in one night, snacking here and there, and moving on.
