17th Street Bar and Grill

The wife and I plus her cousin and husband decided to try 17TH St Bar & Grill solely from the Food Feud show. We stopped by on Sunday 8/5/12 about n 1:00 and the place was not packed. It was clean and inviting with the smoky smell of BBQ in the air. Our waitress was quick and very informative. We all decided on the pulled pork sandwich with tossed salads, 17ST baked beans, sweet potato wedge and waffle fries which the wife ordered extra crispy. Our appetizer was onion straws which were hot and oh so delicious. Not sure what spices were used but would order those again. Our salads were nothing spectacular but the wifes was a leftover from the day before. The sandwiches were moist and very hickory smoked but no sauce served on a toasted chiabatta type bun. We used the 17th ST bottled sauce which was a thin and vinegar type sauce but sweet and spicy (I like a sweeter and thicker type sauce). T o our surprise the baked beans had lima, butter and baked beans but again very delicious and smoky sweet. My sweet potato on the menu said with toppings but arrived with only a honey smoke sauce which was okay but I expected a melted marshmallow type sauce. No dessert and we had 1/2 sandwiches left overs and waffle fries-the wifes were perfectly extra crispy too. We would and will eat here again but we will also try Pappy's for comparison. Overall a 4.5 rating from us.

We recently tried this place after seeing the good reviews and left disappointed. We went on a Tuesday night and there were very few customers. The ribs were barely warm, had no smoke flavor and were dried out. The sides were small. My wife had a Margarita that appeared to be watered down. There is no way that this place is a top ten BBQ joint.

The time was around 4:00pm on Saturday May 29, 2010. There were only two (2) other cars in the parking lot. We were seated and then asked to move because the server on the side we were seated called off. When we were seated on the other side the server on that side made a comment to the hostess and I said if you want us to sit somewhere else we can. He said he was just kidding. The table that we sat at was dirty and I tried to wipe it off but it was a mess. The carpet had food on it too. It was very hot that day so we ordered our drinks and just then two (2) other people came into the resturant and they were seated at the same table we were told we couldn't sit at by the same hostess. By then I was upset and we just decided to leave. There were four (4) employees just talking to each other at the hostess stand and when we walked out they just said "Have a nice day". When there are so many places to choose from to eat, I would think that they would at least have employees that cared about ensuring you had a good experience. We went to another BBQ place (Bandana's) and that place was like night and day. I will now give my business to them instead and not to 17th Street Bar & Grill. I don't care how good the food is, if you don't have good service no one with get the opportunity to try it.

This place is a definite DO AGAIN. The ribs are the best. Sandwiches are great values and the selection of side dishes will leave you wanting to try them all. We had Mike's Chili, Toasted Ravioli and 17th Street Barbacue Pork. Wow. The overall experience will leave you thinking this is your neighborhood place.

The absolute best ribs I've ever eaten. It's like Jesus himself grilled the ribs. Their other meat I didn't care for too much. The pulled pork was kinda bad. But if you want pulled pork there is no other place besides Pappy's Smokhouse in STL city. But 17th St's ribs are like a mouth orgasm. I can't recommend enough.
