Best of Metromix St. Louis 2010Burger

This is one of the most contentious and debated 'best of' categories out there. Everyone has an opinion on which place in town has the best burger. So how did we choose the nominees? Well, we took what we liked, we surveyed everyone in the KSDK building, we checked the user ratings on the site, added everything together, and came up with this list. Vote below as to which is your favorite burger of the five, and feel free to comment below if we left your favorite spot off the list.

O'Connell's Pub

Big, cheap and good. Those three words sum up the burger at O'Connell's to a t. You've got a large chunk of beef, topped with melted American cheese, a big ole' onion, and ketchup and mustard if you so choose. You'll be more than full, and you'll spend less than $6 for it.

The Red Lion may be new on the scene, but its burger is already reaching legendary status in St. Louis. One type of meat isn't enough for The Red Lion. The cooks here mix lamb and beef together, throw in some caramelized onions, barbecue sauce and a toasted brioche bun to create a taste orgy.

Carl's Drive In

Carl's hearkens back to another time... a time when a single, flat patty burger was just right. Carl's burgers are practically healthy compared to some of the other behemoth burgers on this list. These are the type of burgers your grandparents liked to eat, and as Carl's fans would most certainly point out, less is more when it comes to flavor.

What do you get when you mesh an upscale restaurant with a burger joint? Burger Bar. The burgers you buy here aren't cheap, but they're very good. And you can get creative. Want a burger with lobster? No problem. How about toppings like black truffles and foie gras. You got it. With lots of different options, you can go as high-end as you want.

A thick grilled burger cooked over an open flame makes this mouth-watering burger practically melt off the bun. Piled high with cheese, lettuce, pickle, onion and tomato, the famous seven ounce hamburger has classic grill marks on both sides of the patty and the classic diner taste.
