Love the Mushrooms!

Be sure to order your burger one temp down than your normally do as they are cooked on the rare side, but quite yummy! I normally order my burgers medium rare and order it here medium. The mushrooms are the best I've had hands down! French fries are alway crisp and warm. Great winter dive bar. Only complaint is the smoke.

Good food, but too much cigarette smoke to taste it

I've gone there a couple of times with friends. The food was good, but there was so much cigarette smoke that my eyes were watering. And this was during lunch. If you're a smoker and don't mind the fumes while you're eating, this place is great. But if you're like me and actually want to breathe during lunch, go somewhere else...

FANTASTIC

I have been going to O'Connells since I move to the city 14 years ago. I love the fact everything is ala carte. The burgers are so big that most of the time we share a order of fries. We compare the burger size to Fast Eddies without the drive. The fried mushrooms are our favorite appetizer. They are never greasy or soggy and you get there homemade dressing to dip them in. MMMMM...The prices are fantastic also. The atmosphere is great. The service is good. The best part is on a Sunday night when no one is serving food or they are on a bar menu; O'Connells still serves there full menu. I do not think I have ever had a disappointing experience at O'Connells.

I was very disappointed....

I had never gone to O'Connell's but know it's been around for years, and is probably a St. Louis fixture. There is not a no-smoking section, the food is all a la carte (no sides with burgers, sandwiches), they only have one salad dressing (the house dressing), they won't do separate checks, and they automatically add gratuity to groups of 6 or more. We had burgers, salads - the burgers were good but nothing special (not in line with the reputation), and the large salad didn't have meat or cheese. Food is served on heavy-duty paper plates. No refills on soda or coffee, only on tea.

We won't be going back. I didn't see what the attraction was to make it such a popular place.
