Back in 1972 Herbie Balaban opened Café Balaban, a small bar with fewer than fifty seats in the dinning room. The café served a selection of crepes, two salads and French pastries purchased from Andre’s in Clayton. Herbie expanded the venue to include a sidewalk café modeled after a spot he fell in love with in France. The restaurant and the café were decorated with his personal collection of original French antique posters. Much of the wall art at Herbie's Vintage 72—which just opened October 17—comes from Herbie Balaban's personal collection. Herbie’s Vintage 72 is an ode to Herbie... a place created by two men who have a track record for success: Jeff Orbin and Aaron Teitelbaum, co-owners of Monarch.
