We has a class reunion at Highlands. They did whatever we asked, including as many tables reserved as we wanted. Highland was free and they didn't require us to buy anything. We talked with several other Kirkwood area bars/restaurants and they were all pricey. Two bars wouldn't allow us to just show up there; they would have to close the bar to non-reunion patrons, and the reunion committee would have to guarantee $6000 in sales. Because Highland's was free, that increased our attendance.

I was reluctant to give this place a chance, since I wasn't at all a fan of Alandale's. However, I was happily surprised that the service was the best I have had in years. Complete turnaround from Alandale's. I was greeted right when I walked in the door and I had a drink sitting in front of me within just a few minutes. I was well-informed about the beers and was even brought a small sample of the beer just to make sure I would be happy with it. The blackberry wheat beer is light, sweet and delicious. My server went through the menu with me to tell me about the food and suggested that I try the inside-out guacamole (which was quite tasty). The appetizer came out promptly, and the rest of our meal came out right after we finished it. I had the Italian Cheesesteak sandwich, while my friend had the Ultimate Melt. It wasn't just "bar food" like you might expect from a brewery. I had a fantastic experience and I will definitely be returning soon.

This was the worst service I have had in years. We managed to get a few drinks from the sullen girls behind the bar. The beer was good. Then we were seated. After a half an hour we ordered an appetizer which arrived with no silverware, which we had to find for ourselves. Then another half hour passed and our server finally shows. We order our sandwiches, and they never show up. Finally 45 minuted later - waiting at our table outside underneath a flourescent light that belongs above someones basement dryer, we spot our server and inform her that we have to go somewhere (anywhere) else. She brings out our way overpriced sandwiches with the wrong sides. It was obviously someone elses order. In a moment of weakness I agree to eat. The french dip was lame. Arby's blows it away, and you'll pay half the price, and only have to wait about 1/70th of the time. I guess they inherited some tasty beers from the previous owner. Thats it. The service is ultra lousy. The food is ultra lame. You'll leave ultra pissed.
