Harvest used to be one of my favorite places in St. Louis, but they went through a period of average quality and I lost interest. Recently, a friend that used to live here came to visit and suggested Harvest for dinner. I agreed, having heard that they had their act together again, and I was not disappointed. We both had the pork special and enjoyed every bite. I had to get dessert because they have some of the best bread pudding in town. The serving was massive and easily shared. It still remains tops in my book. Harvest may have dropped the ball for a period of time, but they are back at the top with their use of fresh and local ingredients. While I would have easily paid more for this meal, the prices are very reasonable.

Last night, I had my birthday dinner with my wife at Harvest. Wow, am I glad we went here. I'd heard good things about Harvest for a long time, and worked with owner Steve Gontram on the Metromix Taste of St. Louis special - but I'd never been there. There's not a ton on the menu at any given time, but the menu does change often. After going back and forth, I decided on the rabbit dish. WOW! It was so good. The meat was tender, the sauce was excellent and the presentation was top notch. It was actually two takes on rabbit with one dish. The first way it was prepared was wrapped in Harvest's homemade bacon. Then, once you ge past a few of those chunks of meat, you find a rabbit-stuffed canneloni, which was perhaps even better. We had a nice bottle of wine, some garlic mashed potatoes and buttermilk onion rings on the side - and an amazing bread pudding for dessert. Even better, since I'm on Harvest's mailing list for events with Metromix, I got a coupon for a free entree on my birthday. All in all, this was a great trip. We will be back!

  • Executive Chef and owner Stephen Gontram knows the value of using fresh, high-quality seasonal ingredients. It’s been a simple motto of his since he opened Harvest in 1996 and has since garnered much attention and awards for his hearty, American cuisine. Standout dishes include a crispy lump crab cake appetizer, roasted beet salad and pan roasted duck breast, as well as a selection of “spa” menu items that features light options made without oils, butter or creams. And the cozy, Tuscan-inspired dining room features a beautiful fireplace, and is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy an evening with friends.

Eh. I don’t feel strongly about it either way. I don’t hate it or love it, I wouldn’t recommend it or dismiss it, it just is.
